ARDEX X 78 is a grey, MICROTEC fibre-reinforced, cement-based floor tile adhesive with a semi-pourable consistency, made for solid-bed fixing of large format floor tiles. It is classified C2 E to BS EN 12004, has an open time of up to 60 minutes, and is suitable for internal and external floors, including swimming pools and wet areas.

Application

Add the powder to clean water and mix with a paddle and drill to a semi-pourable mortar, approx. 7.2 litres of water per 20 kg bag; do not exceed the maximum water content. Apply above 5°C. Trowel onto the prepared floor, comb through with a suitably sized notched trowel in straight ribs, then press the tiles in with a twisting and sliding action to get a solid bed. Fix tiles within the open time (within 40 minutes on typical UK sites); tiles can be adjusted for up to 30 minutes at 20°C. Prime absorbent backgrounds and anhydrite screeds with ARDEX P 51 diluted 1:3 with water. Grout after approx. 24 hours at 20°C.

Coverage

Approximately 1.2 kg/m² per mm of adhesive bed. A 20 kg bag yields approx. 16.65 litres of mortar and covers approx. 5.6 m² at 3 mm bed thickness. Actual coverage depends on the tile back profile, notched trowel and bedding technique.
