Mapei Topcem is a special hydraulic binder used as a direct replacement for Portland cement in traditional sand–cement screed mixes. It dramatically accelerates drying time, allowing ceramic tiles to be installed in as little as 24 hours (natural stone after 2 days, resilient and wood flooring after 4 days) instead of the standard 1 mm per day. It also provides controlled shrinkage and high mechanical strength.

Application

Replace the Portland cement component of the screed mix with Topcem at 200–250 kg of Topcem per m³ of 0–8 mm graded aggregate (one 20 kg bag to 140–160 kg of aggregate). Add water sparingly — mix should have a semi-dry, earth-moist consistency. Lay, compact and level as per standard screed practice. The screed is walkable in approximately 12 hours and ready for ceramic tiles from 24 hours, natural stone after 2 days and resilient and wood flooring after 4 days at 23°C. Apply at temperatures between +5°C and +35°C.

Coverage

Consumption is 2–2.5 kg/m² per cm of thickness at 200–250 kg of Topcem per m³ of aggregate, so at 50 mm depth one 20 kg bag covers approximately 1.6–2 m².
